Maggie was diagnosed with Severe Chronic Neutropenia in December 2012, when she was 11 months old. When she was 3 months old, she had an infection on her tongue and a few pimple like spots on her face. At around 9 months, she had an infection on her gum. I thought I was doing something wrong. I asked the Dr if I wasn’t getting her bottle clean enough or if I should clean her toys better. I thought it was strange thought it was strange that she had two infections. In December 2012, she was admitted to Kosair Children’s Hospital as she had three infections in her diaper area that had to be surgically drained. It was then that they determined that she had no neutrophils. She was in hospital for a month before the doctor was able to get her neutrophils up to an acceptable account. After further testing, Maggie was diagnosed with an Elane Gene Defect, which is the cause of her neutropenia. So far, Maggie has responded really well to the Neupogen.
